TV2 / T-33 Shooting Star

At the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum, aviation history is being restored one aircraft at a time. One of our most exciting projects is the TV2 / T-33 Shooting Star, a jet that revolutionized military pilot training in the late 1940s and beyond.

A Legacy of Training America’s Pilots

Built by Lockheed, the T-33 Shooting Star was the first production jet trainer supplied to the U.S. armed forces. It served as the primary jet transition trainer for both the Air Force and the Navy from the late 1940s through the early 1960s, preparing thousands of pilots for the era of jet-powered flight.

The P-80 Shooting Star, its single-seat combat version, played a significant role in the early days of the Korean War, marking the transition from propeller-driven aircraft to high-speed jet fighters.

Restoring a Piece of Aviation History

The museum’s TV2, a modified version with an extended nose section, was generously donated by a private owner. The aircraft is currently undergoing restoration by our dedicated team of volunteers to preserve its structure, appearance, and educational value for future generations.
